Can the Elite Stream Improve the Academic Achievement of Senior Secondary School Students? A Study of High School Students from X City in western China based on Regression Discontinuity Analysis

The fairness and efficacy of the elite stream in general senior secondary education have long been a contentious issue. Based on longitudinal data students who were enrolled five schools X City western China 2017 2018, this study examined effects class streaming improving student academic performance, using regression discontinuity analysis. research findings showed that: despite significant differences grade-10 examination results grade-12 achievement between regular students, gap was not markedly widened after three years education; did exhibit distinct promotive advancement students’ overall performance when cutoff point admission utilized as exogenous variable to evaluate performance; both parameter estimation non-parametric demonstrated that had no marked there gender difference or urban vs. rural impact achievement.
